Harry Kane scored twice as England defeated Czechia 3-0 at Wembley to strengthen their position in the UEFA Nations League and move closer to the quarter-finals.
The result, secured on Tuesday evening, was England’s second win over the same opponents in a matter of days after they won 2-0 away from home. The victory took England to nine points, leaving them second in the group behind Spain, who have a perfect 12 points.
England controlled the match for long periods without having to operate at full intensity. They dominated possession, applied sustained pressure and repeatedly tested the Czech defence, while the visitors struggled to impose their style or create meaningful opportunities.
The hosts went ahead in the 27th minute when Kane delivered a cross into the penalty area. Vladimir Coufal attempted to deal with the ball but inadvertently turned it into his own net.
England continued to press after taking the lead and doubled their advantage before half-time. Kane was again central to the move, meeting a precise low cross from Morgan Rogers with a first-time finish in the 40th minute.
The pattern remained largely unchanged after the interval. England maintained control and continued to threaten, while Czechia offered little in attack and were unable to apply sustained pressure to the home defence.
Kane completed his two-goal performance in the 75th minute. The England captain rose to meet a cross from Lewis Hall and powered a header into the net to put the result beyond doubt.
The win leaves Czechia bottom of the group without a point after four consecutive defeats. Spain have already secured their place in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals.
England are also effectively through, having opened a six-point gap over third-placed Croatia with only two group matches remaining. They hold the head-to-head advantage against Croatia after beating them 7-0.
England’s latest victory was achieved with limited physical exertion, but Kane’s contribution again underlined his importance to the side. He supplied the cross that led to the opening goal, scored before half-time and then sealed a convincing result with his second goal of the night.
