Lamine Yamal backs Hamza Abdelkarim over Erling Haaland move

Lamine Yamal has reportedly told Barcelona not to sign a superstar striker such as Erling Haaland or Julian Alvarez, preferring the club to place its faith in 18-year-old Hamza Abdelkarim.

According to El Nacional, the debate over Barcelona’s number nine role continues behind the scenes, but Yamal has made his position clear. He believes Abdelkarim deserves a real opportunity this season rather than the arrival of another big-name forward.

Sport reports that Abdelkarim will not be sent out on loan. Barcelona signed him on loan from Al-Ahly before activating a purchase option worth 1.5 million euros, rising to 5 million euros with bonuses. His contract now runs until 2030 and includes a release clause of 150 million euros.

The failure to sign Alvarez initially looked like a problem, but Raphinha’s goals have changed the picture. Hansi Flick is gradually introducing Abdelkarim into the senior squad, and Yamal has developed a strong relationship with him in training.

Yamal’s support could prove important. Barcelona have often trusted young players from La Masia, and the teenager may now get the chance to prove he can lead the attack.
