Algeria face must-win Egypt clash for 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations place

Algeria must beat hosts Egypt on Tuesday to keep their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana alive.

The match is the final fixture for both sides in the Union North African Football Federation (UNAF) tournament, with Algeria needing all three points to secure a place in the finals.

The decisive game will begin at 15:30 French time, or 14:30 in Algeria, at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt. It will be broadcast live on the official UNAF YouTube channel.

Algeria began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Tunisia before beating Libya 3-1. They then suffered a 3-1 defeat by Morocco in the derby, a result which left Morocco top of the standings and already qualified.

Mohamed Seddik is Algeria’s leading scorer in the tournament with two goals. He found the net in each of the team’s first two matches.

Hocine El Orfi’s side are third, two points behind second-placed Egypt. They therefore have to win Tuesday’s match if they are to qualify.

Egypt have also lost to Morocco, but victories over Libya and Tunisia have put them in a strong position. Tunisia have already been eliminated, while a draw against Algeria would be enough for the Pharaohs to progress.

The two teams last met in the UNAF tournament in November 2024. Algeria rescued a 1-1 draw after Ben Ahmed Kohili converted a penalty in the 86th minute.
