Zamalek set to field youth players against ZED in Egypt Capital Cup opener

Zamalek are closing in on a squad featuring several youth players for Wednesday’s Egypt Capital Cup group-stage match against ZED.

The match will be the opening fixture for both sides in the competition, with the Zamalek team for the game being led by Ibrahim Salah. FilGoal.com has identified the young players most likely to be included.

The expected group is:

– Omar Abdel Aziz – goalkeeper, 2007 team – Khaled El Sayed – defender, 2007 team – Mohamed Osama – defender, 2007 team – Moaz Mohamed – defender, 2007 team – Ahmed Lamloum – defender, 2009 team – Ezzat Mohamed – left-back, 2009 team – Omar Youssry – left-back, 2007 team – Mohamed Farag – right-back, 2007 team – Ziad Medhat – midfielder, 2007 team – Yassin Moussa – midfielder, 2009 team – Mohamed Wanees – midfielder, 2007 team – Ahmed Safwat – midfielder, 2009 team – Ahmed Hassan – right winger, 2007 team – Yassin Mostafa – left winger, 2010 team – Hossam Ashour El-Teki – right winger, 2007 team – Mohamed Hamad – winger, 2007 team – Adham Haseeb – striker, 2009 team – Ahmed Ibrahim – striker, 2009 team

Mohamed Wanees and Hossam Ashour El-Teki have been training with Zamalek’s first team for some time and are expected to feature against ZED.

Ahmed Safwat and Adham Haseeb have also returned after taking part in the Friendship Tournament in Switzerland with Egypt’s youth national team. Both players are registered in Zamalek’s continental first-team squad this season.

Mohamed Farag, who has also been promoted to the senior squad, is due to join the camp on Tuesday after completing his involvement with Egypt Under-17s in the North Africa qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Farag has not started for the national team since the tournament began, leaving him as one of the players most likely to be available for the match against ZED.

Goalkeeper Omar Abdel Aziz and attacking winger Mohamed Hamad are also part of the expected squad. Both players have previously been promoted to Zamalek’s first team, but their involvement will depend on whether they play for Egypt against Algeria in Tuesday’s North Africa qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.

If they feature against Algeria, it would be difficult for them to play for Zamalek against ZED. Omar Abdel Aziz could still be included among the substitutes, while the club will decide whether either player joins the team’s camp in the New Administrative Capital ahead of the derby against Al Ahly.

Zamalek are in Group A alongside ZED, Wadi Degla, Tala’ea El Gaish and Al Ittihad Al Sakandary.
