Senegal edge Comoros to end international break on winning note
Senegal ended their international break on a winning note after securing a 1-0 victory over Comoros in an international friendly at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille on Sunday, October 4.
The Lions of Teranga made a fast start to the encounter and needed just five minutes to break the deadlock, with Iliman Ndiaye putting Senegal ahead.
The Manchester City winger finished off a move created by Ibrahim Mbaye, finding the back of the net to give Patrick Vieira’s side an early advantage.
Senegal controlled the game after taking the lead, while Comoros worked to find a response but struggled to create a clear opening capable of restoring parity.
The score remained 1-0 at the break, with Senegal carrying their narrow advantage into the second half.
Comoros continued to push forward after the interval, but Senegal’s defence stood firm as both sides pressed for another goal. Neither team, however, was able to find the decisive touch in the final third.
Senegal ultimately held on to claim a 1-0 victory and close their international window with another positive result under Vieira.
The win also marked Vieira’s second victory since taking charge of the Senegalese national team. The former France international began his tenure with a 1-1 draw against Mozambique in the opening round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers before guiding Senegal to a 1-0 victory over Ethiopia on matchday two.
The victory over Comoros therefore gives Vieira another important result as he continues to build his team and establish his ideas with the Lions of Teranga.
Senegal now return from the international break with confidence boosted by another clean-sheet victory, having finished their latest assignment in Marseille without conceding.
