Orlando Pirates ask court to freeze R20.2m linked to former finance manager

Orlando Pirates have confirmed they have approached the Johannesburg High Court to freeze R20.2 million allegedly linked to former finance manager Darryl Joselowsky.

The club’s application follows an internal forensic investigation into its financial transactions. TimesLIVE reported that the investigation uncovered suspicious payments connected to the former employee.

The alleged irregularities were reportedly identified in July during a routine review of Orlando Pirates’ management accounts.

The Soweto club said the court application is intended to preserve the money while the transactions are examined. It also confirmed that Joselowsky is cooperating with the club as the investigation continues.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is aware of media reports concerning a court application brought by the Club,” said a statement.

“The Club has asked the High Court to preserve funds linked to certain financial transactions while those transactions are investigated. This is a precautionary step to protect the Club’s funds during the process.

“The application is not a finding of wrongdoing and should not be interpreted as one. The individual concerned is cooperating, and the Club is committed to a fair process for everyone involved.

“Our supporters, partners and sponsors can be assured that the Club’s day-to-day operations and commitments continue as normal. Our focus remains on the team and the season ahead.

“As the matter is before the court, it would not be appropriate for the Club to comment further at this stage. We will provide updates when we are able to do so.”

Orlando Pirates stressed that the proceedings do not amount to a finding of wrongdoing against the individual concerned. The club said the application was a precautionary measure designed to protect its funds while the relevant transactions are investigated.

The club also said its normal operations and commitments were continuing, with its attention remaining on the team and the season ahead. It declined to provide further comment because the matter is currently before the court.
