South Africa’s Teboho Mokoena expresses pride in AFCON 2023 bronze Medal triumph

Teboho Mokoena, shared his immense pride in securing the Bronze medal for South Africa. Speaking in the mixed zone, Mokoena expressed gratitude to the entire team, emphasizing the collective effort that led to their success.

“I am very proud of our journey during this AFCON. We worked very hard to win this bronze medal.

The credit goes to everyone, players, staff. Everyone on the team has contributed to our success.

This is by far the best team I have played with. We have written a new page in history.

The last time South Africa reached the last four was during the AFCON 2000,” declared Mokoena, representing Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.

Reflecting on the significance of their achievement, Mokoena acknowledged the historical context of their performance and the dedication of each team member.

The midfielder’s comments shed light on the sense of accomplishment within the Bafana Bafana squad.

Looking ahead, Mokoena discussed the upcoming challenges for South Africa, with a particular focus on the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

He highlighted the importance of their June match against Nigeria and expressed the team’s aspirations to navigate the qualifiers successfully.

“Important deadlines await us, starting with the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. We have a delicate match in June against Nigeria.

We aspire to negotiate this match well and the other matches too. We want to compete in this World Cup.

During this AFCON, we showed great determination and unparalleled fighting spirit. We have to do the same thing to hope to compete in the World Cup,” explained Mokoena, underlining the team’s commitment to building on their AFCON success and reaching new heights in future competitions.
