Bafana Bafana lose Teboho Mokoena and Bathusi Aubaas for Egypt friendly

South Africa will be without midfielders Teboho Mokoena and Bathusi Aubaas for Sunday’s international friendly against Egypt in Cairo.

The match will conclude Pitso Mosimane’s first international break in charge of the team, but the coach must now deal with a double injury setback in midfield.

“ The midfield will be the biggest challenge for Mosimane as Bathusi Aubaas and Teboho Mokoena are out with injuries and will play no part on Sunday,” SAFA stated.

Mokoena suffered his injury late in South Africa’s victory over Guinea last weekend. The problem subsequently ruled him out of Wednesday’s emphatic win against Eritrea.

Aubaas replaced Mokoena in the starting line-up for the Eritrea match, but his involvement lasted only 12 minutes before he was forced off with an injury of his own.

The two absences are expected to prompt Mosimane to make changes to his side for the meeting with Egypt.

Egypt will also be missing two prominent players for the friendly. Mohamed Salah will not feature, while OGC Nice defender Mohamed Abdelmonem is unavailable.
