Neto returns to Juventus after ‘enjoying time at home’ with family

Norberto Neto says he was enjoying a rare spell at home with his family before Juventus contacted him about returning to the club.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper has rejoined Juventus on a free transfer and has signed a contract running until 30 June 2027.

“I had never before been able to stay at home and enjoy time with my family,” Neto told Sky Sport. “Then I received a call from Juventus and did not hesitate to accept.”

Neto previously played for the Italian club between 2015 and 2017, making 22 appearances. During that period, he won two Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia trophies and one Supercoppa Italiana.

He said returning to a familiar environment would make settling in straightforward, while also praising the changes made at the club.

“Going back to a place you know well means you do not need time to adapt, but a new training centre has been built and that is amazing,” he added.

Neto left Botafogo at the end of last season. His career has also included spells in Spain with Valencia and Barcelona, as well as three seasons in England with Bournemouth and Arsenal.

“I had felt for a few years that I wanted to return to Italy, so I am happy and ready for this challenge,” Neto said.

He has not previously worked with Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti, but said his early impression of the coach had been strongly positive.

“I have never worked with Spalletti before, but he has already made a very positive impression on me,” Neto said.

Neto’s return comes after Juventus goalkeeper Kamil Grabara suffered a cruciate ligament injury. The Poland international made an impressive start following his arrival at the club, beginning his first match for Juventus against NEC Nijmegen in the Europa League.

Grabara also produced an excellent assist for team-mate Nicolas Gonzalez’s opening goal as Juventus won 5-0 in the opening league phase match of the Europa League.

The 27-year-old joined Juventus from Wolfsburg on loan last summer, with the agreement due to expire at the end of the current season.
