Felix Agu’s comeback cut short as Bremen crumble 7-0 to Twente
Felix Agu’s first start after almost two months out ended prematurely as Werder Bremen suffered a 7-0 friendly defeat to FC Twente.
The 27-year-old wing-back was forced off in the 41st minute after reporting fresh physical discomfort, turning what should have been a comeback milestone into another injury concern.
Coach Daniel Thioune confirmed that the substitution was not planned. “I got the signal from him shortly before half-time that he was no longer able to continue,” Thioune said. “I still need to find out everything else, but it does not look good.”
Agu had hoped the Twente fixture would help him regain rhythm following a lengthy spell out. Instead, Werder now fear a recurrence of muscular problems, although the full extent of the issue remains unclear.
Thioune added: “I think there are muscular issues that have returned. It was not a planned substitution. Ideally, we would have liked Felix to reach half-time, but at that point he could no longer continue.”
Sporting director Peter Niemeyer offered a more cautious assessment, saying Agu was withdrawn as a precaution and felt reasonably well on the bench. An MRI scan will determine the diagnosis and any potential absence.
