Relebohile Mofokeng became the latest South Africa player to score twice in a match after helping Bafana Bafana beat Eritrea 5-0 in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Cairo on Wednesday night.

The 21-year-old’s goals were his first for the national team, with his second arriving in first-half stoppage time. The Union Saint-Gilloise player now joins a list of seven recent Bafana Bafana players to have scored a brace.

Teboho Mokoena was the previous player to achieve the feat, scoring twice in South Africa’s 5-0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying victory over Congo in October 2024. CAF confirmed that the midfielder’s goals came in the 12th and 53rd minutes.

Before Mokoena, Thapelo Morena scored two goals during a 3-1 World Cup qualifying win against Zimbabwe in June 2024. Morena found the net in the 55th and 76th minutes.

Themba Zwane’s latest double came against Algeria in March 2024. He scored both of South Africa’s goals in a 3-3 FIFA Series draw.

Lyle Foster was responsible for Bafana Bafana’s two goals in their 2-2 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying draw with Liberia in March 2023.

Evidence Makgopa also scored twice on his international debut, finding the net against Uganda in June 2021 as South Africa secured a 3-2 friendly victory.

The list is completed by Percy Tau, who scored twice against Sao Tome and Principe in November 2020. Tau and Zwane both registered braces in that 4-2 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win.
