Former Nigeria star Osinachi Ohale leaves Pachuca after three seasons

Former Nigeria defender Osinachi Ohale has ended her three-year spell with Mexican club Pachuca Femenil, bringing another chapter of an accomplished career to a close.

Ohale joined Pachuca, also known as the ‘Bella Airosa’, after Nigeria’s participation at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The experienced centre-back quickly became an important figure for the Mexican side, establishing herself as a regular in the team and contributing significantly during her time at the club.

Her departure comes after 105 appearances across all competitions, underlining the consistency she maintained throughout her three seasons with Pachuca.

105 appearances for Pachuca

Ohale featured 82 times in regular-season matches during her spell in Mexico, while also making 21 appearances in the playoffs.

She added two appearances in the Concacaf Women’s Champions Cup, taking her overall tally for Pachuca to 105 matches.

Her experience and defensive qualities made her a valuable member of the squad, having arrived in Mexico with considerable experience from both domestic and international football.

Ohale’s career had already taken her across several countries before she joined Pachuca.

The 34-year-old began her professional journey in Nigeria with Rivers Angels and Delta Queens before making the move abroad to the United States, where she played for Houston Dash.

Extensive career across Europe and US

The defender subsequently gained experience in European football, featuring for clubs in Sweden, Spain and Italy.

Her career abroad has therefore included spells across multiple leagues and continents, while her international career established her as one of Nigeria’s most experienced defenders.

Ohale represented the Super Falcons for years and earned 87 international appearances before recently announcing her retirement from international football.

She was part of several major tournaments with Nigeria and played a significant role in the national team’s defensive ranks during her international career.

Her decision to retire from the Super Falcons came shortly before her departure from Pachuca, making the latest development another significant transition in her career.

Another chapter closes

Ohale now leaves Pachuca having made more than 100 appearances for the club and after establishing herself as an experienced presence in Mexican women’s football.

Her exit also marks the end of her time with the side following three seasons in which she featured prominently across the regular season, playoffs and continental competition.

Having already stepped away from international football, Ohale’s departure from Pachuca leaves her at another defining point in a career that has taken her from Nigeria to the United States, Europe and Mexico.

The former Super Falcons defender’s next move will now be closely watched after an extensive career that has included more than a decade of top-level club and international football.
