Ghana’s troubled run deepens as Morocco friendly is cancelled

Ghana’s difficult period has continued with the cancellation of their planned friendly against Morocco on 4 October in Tangier.

The match will no longer take place, with Mali stepping in to face the Lions of the Atlas instead.

Once regarded as one of Africa’s leading football nations, Ghana have endured a series of disappointing results in recent years. The Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 and 2023, before failing to qualify for the 2025 tournament.

Their struggles have also carried into the qualifying campaign for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027.

Ghana began the campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Cote d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 home loss to The Gambia. The Black Stars had been 2-0 ahead in that match but were unable to hold on to their lead.

As a result, Ghana have no points from their opening two matches.
