Ahmed Fattouh set to return to Egypt training after three-day absence

Egypt defender Ahmed Fattouh is expected to resume full team training after resting for three days because of a thigh injury sustained against South Sudan.

Fattouh, who plays for Zamalek as well as the Egypt national team, was forced off shortly after half-time in Egypt’s 5-0 win. He went down holding his anterior thigh and was replaced by Karim Hafez in the 53rd minute.

According to FilGoal.com, Fattouh’s injury is a thigh contusion and he will need three days’ rest before rejoining Egypt’s group sessions.

Egypt are preparing to face South Africa in a friendly on Sunday.

The 5-0 victory over South Sudan came in the second round of qualifying. Egypt’s goals were scored by Mostafa Abdel Raouf “Zizo”, Omar Marmoush, who scored twice, Ibrahim Adel and Hamza Abdelkarim.

The result moved Egypt temporarily to the top of Group B with four points. They had drawn with Angola in the opening round.

Malawi have three points, while Angola have one. The two sides are due to meet on 6 October in the same round of fixtures.

South Sudan are bottom of Group B without a point after losing to both Malawi and Egypt.
