South Africa face Eritrea test in 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying

South Africa meet Eritrea in a crucial Group D match in Egypt on Wednesday as the second round of 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying continues. Kick-off is at 16:00 GMT.

With one of the co-host nations in the group, only one team will qualify, making every point particularly important. The sides are therefore aware that any dropped points could prove costly in the race for a place at the tournament.

The Bafana Bafana narrowly defeated Guinea in their opening match and now face an Eritrea side that showed plenty of resolve on its return to the continental stage. Eritrea held Kenya to a draw in the first round, having taken the lead before being pegged back by an equaliser in the 87th minute.

South Africa are in the process of rebuilding and will need to be alert against opponents who have made an encouraging start to their campaign. Eritrea have little to lose and much to gain, increasing the significance of what could be a demanding test for the Bafana Bafana.
