Tunisia held by Botswana as winless run reaches eight in Afcon qualifying

Tunisia’s difficult run continued as Botswana fought back to secure a 2-2 draw in their Africa Cup of Nations Group H qualifier in Rades on Monday.

The result leaves Tunisia without a win in their last eight matches and gives them two points from their opening two games. They were also held at home on Thursday, drawing 1-1 with Uganda.

Botswana sit top of Group H on two points, level with Tunisia. Libya and Uganda have one point each and will meet in Hoima on Tuesday.

Botswana took the lead after 37 minutes when Thatayaone Kgamanyane found the net. Tunisia responded through Hazem Mastouri, who scored twice either side of half-time to put the hosts ahead.

Their advantage lasted until the 60th minute, when Lebogang Ditsele equalised for Botswana. Tunisia could not find a winning goal, leaving the sparse home crowd disappointed once again.

DR Congo maintain perfect record

The Democratic Republic of Congo moved to the top of Group E after beating Zimbabwe 2-1 in Harare to make it two wins from two matches.

Yoane Wissa opened the scoring and then created the second goal for Samuel Moutoussamy, who struck just before half-time. Zimbabwe reduced the deficit late on through Marshall Munetsi, who scored for the third time in two games, but the Congolese side held on.

In the group’s other match, Equatorial Guinea defeated Sierra Leone 1-0 in Yaounde, which was being used as a neutral venue. Spanish-born forward Loren Zuniga scored inside the first minute to settle the game.

DR Congo lead Group E with six points. Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea have three points each, while Sierra Leone are still waiting for their first point.

Burkina Faso go top of Group F

Burkina Faso moved into first place in Group F with a 1-0 victory over Central African Republic in Casablanca, another neutral venue.

Aboubacar Camara, who plays for RB Salzburg, scored the only goal in the 60th minute. It was the teenager’s second appearance for the senior national team.

The top two teams in each qualifying group will secure places at the 24-team Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The tournament will be staged in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17 next year.
