Egypt recall Marwan Attia as Hetham Hassan and Omar Marmoush start against South Sudan

Egypt have restored Marwan Attia to their starting line-up for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan, while Hetham Hassan and Omar Marmoush lead the attack.

The Pharaohs are away to South Sudan in the second round of qualifying for the tournament. Attia missed Friday’s match against Angola through suspension but returns to the XI in place of Mahmoud Saber, who started that game.

Marmoush replaces Mohamed Salah, who is absent because the match is being played at a stadium with an artificial-turf pitch.

Egypt manager Hossam Hassan has named the following starting line-up:

Goalkeeper: Mostafa Shobeir

Defenders: Mohamed Hany, Omar Rabie, Hossam Abdel Meguid, Ahmed Fattouh

Midfielders: Mohand Lasheen, Marwan Attia, Emam Ashour

Forwards: Hetham Hassan, Omar Marmoush, Mostafa Ziko

Substitutes: Mehdy Soliman, Mohamed Alaa, Tarek Alaa, Omar Fayed, Ali Mahmoud, Karim Hafez, Ibrahim Adel, Ahmed Sayed “Zizo”, Osama Faisal, Hamza Abdelkarim.

Egypt are in Group B alongside Malawi, South Sudan and Angola.

The Africa Cup of Nations qualifying competition is being played across 12 groups. The teams finishing first and second in each group will qualify directly for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The tournament will take place in June 2027 and will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.
