Ghana name 25-man squad for U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign

Ghana have announced a 25-player squad as Desmond Ofei begins preparations for the Black Meteors’ qualifying campaign for the 2027 CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The squad is due to report to the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

The players will step up their preparations at the training camp, which will include a series of friendly matches as Ghana build towards their opening qualification tie.

The Black Meteors are expected to remain in camp until the qualifiers begin in November. Some members of the squad may be temporarily released to fulfil club commitments before returning to continue their work with the national team.

Ghana have been given a bye into the second round of qualifying and will face the winners of the Togo-Libya tie.

Togo and Libya will meet in the first leg on 9 November 2026, with the return fixture scheduled for 17 November 2026.

Should Ghana progress, they will move into the final qualifying round. Their opponents at that stage will be the winners of the second-round contest involving Sao Tome-et-Principe, Equatorial Guinea or Niger.

The final round of qualifying is scheduled to take place between 22 and 30 March 2027.

The three-round qualification process will determine the seven teams joining hosts Egypt in the eight-team finals of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Qualification would also give Ghana the opportunity to end a lengthy absence from the men’s Olympic football tournament. The Black Meteors have not appeared at the Olympics since the Athens Games in 2004.
