Zimbabwe to host DR Congo in Harare for first home match in five years

Zimbabwe will play in front of their home supporters for the first time in five years when they welcome the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Monday.

The fixture is a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between the teams at the top of the standings.

The Warriors have been forced to play their home games outside Zimbabwe, most often in South Africa, because of major renovation work at the 60,000-capacity National Sports Stadium on the outskirts of Harare.

The return to the capital gives Zimbabwe the chance to stage an international match at home again after a five-year absence.

However, the Warriors are not the only team facing difficulties over a permanent venue. Of the 48 nations taking part in qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, 13 are currently without a home stadium.
