Mamelodi Sundowns begin DStv Diski Challenge with win over Durban City

Mamelodi Sundowns opened their DStv Diski Challenge campaign with a 4-2 victory over Durban City on Saturday afternoon, with first-team players Siyabonga Mabena, Letlhaku and Bennet Mokoena included in the starting line-up.

Mabena, who captained the side, put Sundowns ahead in the 13th minute. Letlhaku then extended their advantage seven minutes before half-time.

Durban City responded after the interval, with Aphelele Zondi and Sibusiso Mdlalose scoring to bring the match level.

Sundowns, who finished as runners-up last season, regained control when Mabena scored his second goal in the 89th minute. Simphiwe Mlondo added a fourth goal a few minutes later to complete the scoring.

The result gives Sundowns an early winning start in the competition.

Sekhukhune United edge Siwelele FC

Sekhukhune United also began their campaign with a victory, beating Siwelele FC 1-0 on Saturday morning.

The decisive goal came in the 69th minute, when Mepha found the net for Babina Noko.

Kruger United make history with victory

Kruger United defeated Marumo Gallants 2-0 in their opening DStv Diski Challenge fixture.

The match was also the first-ever DStv Diski Challenge encounter in the history of KwaZulu-Natal.
