Former PSL top scorer Mwape Musonda signs for Lerumo Lions

Former Premier Soccer League top scorer Mwape Musonda has joined Motsepe Foundation Championship club Lerumo Lions after successfully completing an assessment with the North West side.

Lerumo Lions confirmed to Soccer Laduma that the Zambian striker had impressed during his trial and had agreed terms with the club.

The 2018/19 PSL top goalscorer has signed a one-year contract, with an option to extend his stay for another season.

“Yes, he’s signed and ready to play. It’s a one-year deal, with an option for a further year,” Lerumo Lions head coach Tshepo Maphari said.

Musonda’s arrival follows a trial period that was reported recently. Maphari believes the striker can still make a significant contribution in front of goal.

“He’s looking good,” the coach added.

Musonda is best remembered for claiming the PSL Golden Boot during the 2018/19 season while on the books of Black Leopards. He scored 16 goals to finish as the competition’s leading scorer.

The move gives Lerumo Lions an experienced attacking option as they look to improve their scoring record in the second tier.

Maphari’s side have scored five goals in their five matches so far this season, an average of one goal per game. They are currently ninth in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings.

Lerumo Lions will next be in action at home against Hope FC on 10 October, when the match will be played at Dobsonville Stadium.
