Dumfries criticises Kimmich over Germany’s controversial Nations League goal

Denzel Dumfries criticised Germany captain Joshua Kimmich for continuing an attack while Netherlands forward Brian Brobbey was down injured during Thursday’s 1-1 draw in the UEFA Nations League.

Felix Nmecha put Germany ahead in the 32nd minute at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, after the visitors chose to play on despite Brobbey remaining on the pitch.

Dumfries said Germany’s left-winger, Karim Adeyemi, appeared as though he was about to stop before passing to Kimmich.

“The left winger, Adeyemi, looked at me as if he was going to stop, then he played the ball to Kimmich,” Dumfries said after the match.

“We know Kimmich. He is a world-class player, but we know his tricks.”

The defender, who was described as a Real Madrid player in the source report, added: “Kimmich continued playing and they scored. That should not happen to us, although perhaps we should do these things ourselves as well.”

Dumfries also confirmed that he confronted Kimmich during the incident.

“I had already gone to confront him, yes, definitely,” he said. “In the end, you are left with the feeling that it was not completely right.”

The Netherlands eventually rescued a point in second-half injury time when Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo equalised.

The result marked the first match in charge of Germany for Jurgen Klopp and the first for Xavi Hernandez as Netherlands manager.
