Ismael Saibari misses Oktoberfest as Bayern Munich form begins to improve

Ismael Saibari has made an encouraging start to life at Bayern Munich, registering three assists before scoring his first Bundesliga goal immediately before the international break.

The Morocco international’s progress has prompted increased interest from the German media, with Saibari himself confident he can meet the expectations now surrounding him.

However, while Oktoberfest is taking place across Bavaria, Saibari’s priority has been restoring his fitness. He was injured while representing Morocco at the World Cup and began the season with Bayern Munich short of his best physical condition.

“During the World Cup, he looked agile, alert and powerful,” German football magazine Kicker wrote. “It is therefore understandable that Saibari was unable to show his full potential during his first weeks in Munich, but his fitness is now improving.”

Kicker also highlighted the former PSV player’s efficiency, noting that he had produced four direct goal contributions in relation to the amount of playing time he had received.

“Four direct contributions to goals compared with his playing time is a respectable figure,” the magazine said. “It remains to be seen where and how Saibari will find his place in the first team.”

Saibari’s versatility offers Bayern options

German media reports have since begun to suggest how Saibari could be used by Bayern Munich. His ability to operate in several positions has already been identified as a valuable quality for the club.

“October promises to be a busy month for Bayern,” Kicker added. “A fully fit Saibari, capable of playing in three attacking positions, would undoubtedly be an advantage. His goal points towards a promising future.”

The period is a busy one not only for Bavaria but for the wider region, with millions of tourists travelling to Munich for Oktoberfest.

Saibari, though, has missed the festival entirely. He spent the opening part of the event working on his fitness and will not return to Morocco duty with the national team until the celebrations have ended.

Missing out has not caused him any disappointment.

“It is not really my thing, because I do not drink anyway,” Saibari said. “But when you are from Munich, when you are Bavarian, there is always a reason to celebrate, isn’t there? Maybe next year?”

Saibari was referring to this season’s awards ceremony.
