Former Tottenham star Alan Hutton raises concerns over Omar Marmoush’s goalscoring ability

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Alan Hutton has raised concerns over Omar Marmoush’s goalscoring record, questioning whether the Egyptian forward can provide the prolific output Tottenham need.

Hutton believes Spurs have been crying out for a reliable goalscorer over the past two seasons and feels the club should have invested heavily in a proven world-class striker during the summer transfer window.

His comments follow Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the English Premier League, a result that has once again highlighted concerns over the club’s attacking options.

Hutton acknowledged Marmoush’s quality but questioned whether the Egypt international can become the 20-goal-a-season striker Tottenham require.

“Omar Marmoush is a good loan signing, but he only scored three Premier League goals for Manchester City last season, so he’s not the kind of player who will give you more than 20 goals a season, which is exactly what Spurs need,” Hutton said.

The former Tottenham defender insists the club have been in need of a proven goalscorer for some time and believes they should have spent between £90 million and £100 million to bring in a striker capable of consistently finding the back of the net.

“I believe that Tottenham have been in dire need of a true goalscorer for the past two seasons,” he added.

Hutton also pointed to the situations surrounding Richarlison and Dominic Solanke, which he believes have further exposed Tottenham’s lack of attacking options.

“With Richarlison’s situation and Solanke’s lack of fitness, they really need a goalscorer and I think they should have spent 90 or 100 million pounds to sign a player of that caliber during the summer but they chose to direct that money to other deals,” he continued.

While Marmoush remains an attacking option for Tottenham, Hutton’s assessment suggests that Spurs may still need a more prolific striker if they are to address their long-standing goalscoring concerns.

The former Tottenham defender’s comments will put further focus on Marmoush’s ability to deliver consistently in front of goal and whether he can eventually prove himself as the clinical finisher Tottenham have been searching for.
