Ismaël Doukouré reportedly takes steps toward Ivory Coast nationality switch

Strasbourg defender Ismaël Doukouré is reportedly edging closer to making a definitive decision over his international future, with the 23-year-old said to be preparing to represent Ivory Coast.

According to reports, Doukouré has begun the administrative process required to change his sporting nationality and has reportedly obtained an Ivorian passport after submitting the necessary documentation.

The development could pave the way for the versatile defender to join the Elephants, although his switch would still need to be completed in accordance with the relevant international football regulations before he can officially represent Ivory Coast.

Doukouré has represented France at several youth levels during his career, making him a player with international experience despite not having established himself with the senior French national team.

His reported move toward Ivory Coast comes at a time when the Elephants are dealing with defensive concerns ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Guéla Doué is set to miss Ivory Coast’s first two qualifying matchdays, creating an opening in the squad that could potentially be filled by Doukouré if his change of sporting nationality is completed in time.

The Strasbourg defender could therefore emerge as an option for the Elephants in their upcoming international assignments against Ghana, Somalia and Cameroon.

Doukouré’s versatility would also provide additional options for the Ivorian technical team, particularly as the country prepares for another competitive qualification campaign.

For now, however, the reported nationality switch is yet to be officially confirmed by Doukouré, Strasbourg or the Ivorian Football Federation. His potential arrival would nevertheless represent another boost to Ivory Coast’s defensive options should the necessary administrative and sporting procedures be completed.
