River Plate make Yassine Bounou their top target amid Santiago Beltran uncertainty

River Plate have identified Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou as their preferred target should young goalkeeper Santiago Beltran leave the club.

Bounou, who plays for Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, is currently the only name River Plate are considering as they assess how to strengthen their goalkeeping options during the next transfer window.

Argentine journalist Hernan Castillo said Bounou was the club’s clear priority, describing him as River Plate’s “first, second and third choice” for the position.

River Plate have already made initial contact with people close to Bounou to establish his position and determine whether negotiations over a possible move could begin in the coming months.

The club’s interest is based partly on the 33-year-old’s extensive international experience, as well as his long-standing connection with River Plate. Bounou has previously spoken about his desire to play for the Argentine club at some point in his career.

After the World Cup, Bounou addressed the possibility of joining River Plate, saying: “It does not depend on me, but if the opportunity arises at some point, it would be a good thing.”

Bounou remains under contract with Al Hilal until the middle of 2028, meaning any potential departure would depend on the Saudi club’s position and on negotiations between the two sides.

River Plate are therefore treating Bounou as their sole option to replace Beltran if the young goalkeeper leaves. They want to reinforce the position with a player who has significant experience at international level.
