Achraf Hakimi resumes training after thigh injury

Achraf Hakimi has returned to training with Paris Saint-Germain after suffering a thigh injury last weekend, but his availability for Sunday’s trip to Marseille remains uncertain.

The Moroccan right-back resumed work on the pitch on Friday as part of an individual recovery programme, PSG confirmed in their latest medical update.

“As part of his recovery program, Achraf Hakimi is doing individual work on the field today,” PSG said in a medical update on Friday.

Hakimi was forced to leave PSG’s 1-0 win away to Brest last Sunday after 39 minutes. The match was the fourth round of the Ligue 1 season.

The club confirmed the following day that the 27-year-old had suffered a “slight injury to his right thigh” and would remain under treatment for several days.

His return to the pitch represents progress in his recovery, although he has not yet returned to full training with his team-mates.

PSG have not confirmed whether Hakimi will be part of the squad for their match against Marseille on Sunday. His participation in the fifth Ligue 1 fixture of the season therefore remains unclear.

The French champions will be looking to build on their victory in Brest after a difficult start to their league campaign. PSG had recorded two draws and a defeat before finally securing their first Ligue 1 win of the season last Sunday.

The result moved Luis Enrique’s side to seventh place in the table with five points. They are five points behind the leading trio of Lille, Monaco and Rennes.

Hakimi’s recovery will also be closely followed by Morocco, with the defender included in Mohamed Ouahbi’s squad for the upcoming AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

The 27-year-old was among the players called up by Ouahbi on Thursday as Morocco prepare for two qualifying matches later this month.

The Atlas Lions will host Gabon on September 25 before travelling to face Lesotho four days later.

Morocco will then have another fixture in October, with Ouahbi’s side scheduled to meet Ghana in a friendly in Tangier on October 4.

For now, Hakimi’s immediate focus remains his recovery at PSG. His return to individual training is a positive step, but the club is yet to indicate whether he will be ready to face Marseille.

The coming days should provide a clearer indication of whether the defender can return to competitive action before joining up with the Morocco squad for the upcoming international fixtures.
