Bayer Leverkusen plan long-term contract extension for Ibrahim Maza

Ibrahim Maza has quickly become an important player for Bayer Leverkusen, and the club reportedly wants to reward his progress with a new long-term contract.

His current agreement runs until 2030, but Leverkusen are considering an early extension and a significant salary increase.

According to Sport Bild, initial discussions have already taken place between Bayer officials and the 20-year-old’s representatives. Maza currently earns less than €3 million annually, placing him among the lower-paid members of the squad despite his growing influence.

The Algeria international joined Leverkusen from Hertha BSC in summer 2025 for a reported €12 million. He made an immediate impression, registering 44 appearances, five goals and seven assists across all competitions during his first season. His versatility also allowed him to operate in several midfield positions.

Head coach Carles Martínez sees Maza primarily as a number ten. However, injuries and absences led to him featuring on both wings early this season, where he has added one goal and two assists.

Maza’s development has attracted outside interest, including reported attention from Atletico Madrid. Leverkusen rejected the possibility of selling him and are now exploring a proposed five-year extension. The agreement would strengthen Bayer’s position while securing Maza’s future.
