The coaching staff of Al Ahly continues to communicate with Percy Tau, the player of the Red Devils, to discuss his return to regular team training following the conclusion of South Africa’s national team journey in the Africa Cup of Nations, where they were eliminated by Nigeria in the semi-finals after a penalty shootout.
Tau’s involvement in collective training sessions is under deliberation, with the coaching staff considering granting him a few days’ rest, similar to other international players, before joining team practices.
His availability for the upcoming match against CR Belouizdad on February 16 will be decided later.
Al Ahly’s football team resumes training today, Thursday, after a 24-hour break granted by the coaching staff led by Swiss manager Marcel Koller.
The decision aimed to give players rest, although Koller excluded international players from this break, as they joined the team’s training session the day before yesterday for the first time following their national team duties in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
Khaled Bebo, the club’s football director, praised the friendly match against Smouha, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Al Ahly.
He emphasized its importance in the preparations for the upcoming match against CR Belouizdad in the CAF Champions League.
Bebo highlighted the team’s good performance against a strong opponent, which aided the coaching staff in formulating strategies for the upcoming phase, starting with the recent training camp in the United Arab Emirates.
Bebo also noted that all players showed remarkable physical and technical readiness in the Smouha match.
He emphasized Anthony Modeste’s consistent goal-scoring record and reiterated the readiness of all players for the upcoming competitions, starting with the match against CR Belouizdad.
