Ghampani Lungu recalled by Zambia after impressive Orlando Pirates start

In-form Orlando Pirates winger Ghampani Lungu has been recalled to the Zambia squad for the first time in more than two years.

The 27-year-old has made an immediate impact since joining the Buccaneers, scoring four goals and providing one assist in his first seven appearances for the club.

His performances have earned him a place in head coach George Lwandamina’s 27-man squad for Zambia’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Algeria and Togo.

Lungu made his senior international debut aged 19 and has since won 15 caps. However, he had recently fallen out of favour with the Chipolopolo before his return to the squad.

He last played for Zambia in a 2-1 defeat by Mali in March 2024.

Lungu was absent for Orlando Pirates’ past two matches in the CAF Champions League first preliminary round after suffering an injury during the club’s 4-0 victory over Kruger United.

The winger has since recovered and is expected to be available for Zambia’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on 25 and 29 September.

His selection marks a return to international football after more than two years away and follows a strong opening spell with Orlando Pirates.
