Claude Le Roy names Congo squad for AFCON qualifiers

The Republic of Congo will begin their qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with an away fixture against Namibia on September 24.

The Red Devils will travel to Botswana for the opening Group [details] encounter after Namibia were unable to secure an approved home venue.

The match will be played at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana, where Claude Le Roy’s side will be hoping to make a strong start to their qualifying campaign.

Five days later, Congo will return to action for their second qualifier when they host Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions on September 29 at the Alphonse-Massamba-Débat Stadium in Brazzaville.

Ahead of the two important fixtures, head coach Claude Le Roy has named a 27-man squad featuring players from the domestic league, other African leagues and clubs across the continent.

Le Roy will be hoping his experienced squad can negotiate the challenging opening fixtures and collect valuable points in the race for qualification to the 2027 AFCON finals.

The encounter with Namibia will be particularly important, with Congo looking to overcome the disadvantage of playing outside their home country before returning to Brazzaville to face Cameroon.
