Egypt drawn with Morocco and Gambia in African Men’s Volleyball Championship

Egypt have been drawn in Group B alongside Morocco and Gambia for the African Men’s Volleyball Championship in Tunisia.

The tournament will be held from 15 to 25 September, with Egypt entering as defending champions after winning the 2023 edition.

The four groups are:

Group A Ghana Tunisia Kenya

Group B Egypt Gambia Morocco

Group C Algeria Chad Nigeria

Group D Cameroon Rwanda Central African Republic

The Egyptian Volleyball Federation has announced the men’s squad selected for the competition, with the team’s delegation due to leave Cairo Airport on Sunday.

The squad is:

Reda Heikal, Abdel Rahman El-Husseini, Mohamed Adel “Dola”, Ahmed Saeed, Mohamed Asran, Hamada Othman, Ahmed Azab, Shehab Nabil, Yassin Mohamed, Mostafa Gaber, Ahmed Diaa, Ahmed Youssef, Mohamed Reda and Hazem Kamal.

The team will be managed by head coach Ahmed Samir.

A total of 16 nations will compete in the championship. The winners will qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, while the three highest-placed teams will earn qualification for the 2027 World Championship.

Tunisia are the most successful side in the history of the tournament, having won the title 11 times. Egypt are second on the honours list with nine victories.

Egypt have previously qualified for the Olympic Games on six occasions, most recently at Paris 2024.
