Da Cruz pleased by Chiefs’ scoring record but concerned by ‘stupid goals’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz says his team’s ability to score in every league match has been the main positive from the opening weeks of his tenure, but he remains worried by the goals they have conceded.

The Frenchman was appointed before the start of the season after co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze left the club at the end of last season.

Chiefs have played seven matches in all competitions since Da Cruz took charge, recording three wins, three draws and one defeat.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys are fourth in the league standings with 12 points from six matches. They have found the net in each of those league fixtures, although they failed to score in their only goalless outing so far – a 1-0 defeat by Golden Arrows in the MTN8.

Chiefs have scored 12 goals across all competitions, but have conceded eight, a record Da Cruz believes must improve as the side continues to develop.

“For sure, I’m very happy that we’re scoring,” said Da Cruz.

“We just concede stupid goals, so we need to look forward. But we’re on the [right track] because every game we score.

“We’ll continue to attack and continue to develop our model game.”
