A source within the referees’ committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has disclosed the stance of Egyptian referee Mohamed Adel regarding officiating the final match of the African Cup of Nations, scheduled for the upcoming Sunday, following his praise from all CAF officials after overseeing the encounter between Ivory Coast and Mali in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
In exclusive remarks to “Loutan Sport,” the source stated, “The candidates for officiating the final match of the African Cup of Nations so far are three, in order: Issa Sy from Senegal, Mohamed Adel from Egypt, and Dahane Bedda from Mauritania.”
Furthermore, the source added, “If Mohamed Adel does not officiate the final match of the African Cup of Nations, he will be either the main video assistant referee or the fourth official.”
Jaid and Tessema Close to Third and Fourth Place
The source continued, “The match for the third and fourth place is narrowed down to Moroccan referee Redouane Jaid and Ethiopian referee Bamlak Tessema.”
It was previously decided by the CAF referees’ committee to exclude two Egyptian referees from the African Cup of Nations due to errors, whether it was Mahmoud El Banna after the mistake in the Senegal vs. Ivory Coast match and not sending off Sadio Mane, or Mohamed Maarouf, as part of the officiating team in the Congo vs. Guinea match.
