Edouard Mendy retires from Senegal duty after 59 international appearances

Edouard Mendy has officially announced his retirement from international football with Senegal, bringing his six-year spell with the national team to an end.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper made his debut for the Lions of Teranga in 2018 and leaves with 59 caps. During that time, he helped Senegal win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 and 2025.

Mendy also represented his country at two World Cups, appearing at the 2022 and 2026 tournaments. His international career coincided with the most successful period in Senegal’s recent football history.

In 2021, Mendy was named FIFA’s best goalkeeper following an outstanding year. That campaign included winning the Champions League with Chelsea, adding a major club honour to his achievements with Senegal.

His decision marks the end of an important chapter for the Lions of Teranga. Mendy played a central role in several of the national team’s greatest successes, including their two Africa Cup of Nations triumphs.
