CAF Champions League: Pyramids shine, Saoura fall as four clubs secure progress

Egyptian side Pyramids FC have secured their place in the CAF Champions League round of 32 after completing a 7-1 aggregate victory over Kenyan giants Gor Mahia.

Pyramids followed their 2-0 first-leg victory with a commanding 5-1 win in the return fixture, underlining their strength as they continued their push for continental success.

Walid El Karti, Nasser Maher, Youssef Obama and Mostafa Zico, who scored twice, were on target for the Egyptian side.

Pyramids complete dominant qualification

Having already established a two-goal advantage from the opening leg, Pyramids showed no signs of easing off in the second encounter.

Their five-goal performance completed a comprehensive 7-1 aggregate victory and sent the Egyptian club into the next phase of Africa’s premier club competition.

The result also underlines Pyramids’ strong start to their continental campaign as they target further progress in the Champions League.

JS Saoura suffer elimination

Algerian side JS Saoura suffered a disappointing exit after being eliminated by Guinea’s Horoya Conakry.

Saoura entered the second leg with a narrow advantage after winning 1-0 at home.

However, Horoya overturned the deficit in the return fixture, winning 3-1 to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory and send the Algerian side out of the competition.

Al-Suwaihli cruise past KVZ

Libya’s Al-Suwaihli also booked their place in the round of 32 after comfortably overcoming Tanzania’s KVZ.

After winning the first leg 1-0, Al-Suwaihli produced another impressive display in the return fixture, securing a 3-0 victory.

The Libyan club therefore progressed with a convincing 4-0 aggregate success.

Nouadhibou edge Vipers

Mauritania’s Nouadhibou also advanced after holding Uganda’s Vipers to a goalless draw in the second leg.

The result was enough for the Mauritanian side to progress following a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Uganda.

Nouadhibou therefore advanced on away goals after the aggregate score finished 1-1.

The successful clubs will now turn their attention to the round of 32 as they continue their pursuit of continental glory.
