Ivorian midfielder Aboubacar Konaté joins Moghreb Tétouan from Stade d’Abidjan

Ivorian midfielder Aboubacar Konaté has joined Moroccan top-flight side Moghreb Tétouan from Stade d’Abidjan as the club continues to reshape its squad following promotion to Botola Pro D1.

The 23-year-old has completed his move to the northern Moroccan club, signing his contract in the presence of president Mohamed Jedaouni, members of the management committee and his representative, according to local reports.

The club has not revealed the duration of Konaté’s contract or the financial details of the transfer.

Konaté begins Moroccan adventure

Born in Abobo, Côte d’Ivoire, Konaté is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate on the right wing.

The 1.70m right-footed player joined Stade d’Abidjan in July 2025 and spent the 2025-26 campaign with the Ivorian club.

His move to Moghreb Tétouan represents his first opportunity to play in Moroccan football and adds an Ivorian presence to the club’s squad as they prepare for life back in the country’s top division.

Moghreb Tétouan continue major squad rebuild

Konaté is the latest arrival in an extensive recruitment campaign by Moghreb Tétouan following their return to Botola Pro D1.

The club have already strengthened several areas of the squad with the additions of former Morocco international Fayçal Fajr, Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal, Mohamed El Morabit, Monsef El Amri, Reda Chahid, Ghofrane Nouali and Seydi Aboubacar Diouck.

Moghreb Tétouan have also appointed Moroccan coach Amine El Karma to oversee the team following their promotion.

El Karma replaced Abdelkrim Jinani, who guided the club back to the first division before departing by mutual agreement.

Konaté joins ambitious project

Club president Jedaouni said earlier this week that the recruitment strategy was based on an assessment of the positions that needed strengthening, while emphasising that the club’s spending remained within its available resources.

Konaté now becomes another attacking midfield option for El Karma as Moghreb Tétouan prepare for their return to Morocco’s elite division.

The Ivorian’s arrival also adds to the growing movement of African talent across the continent, with Konaté now set to continue his career in Morocco after making his name in Côte d’Ivoire.
