Moussa Diaby could earn more minutes for Bayer Leverkusen

Moussa Diaby could take another step forward for Bayer Leverkusen this weekend as he continues to regain sharpness following his return to the club.

Head coach Carles Martinez says the French winger has settled quickly and is steadily building momentum on the pitch.

“His integration has been very good and he is very happy,” Martinez said. Diaby already knows Leverkusen from his previous spell and has adapted smoothly within the squad, both in training and away from the field. “I’m happy to have him,” the coach added.

A full 90 minutes may still be too soon for Diaby, however. Martinez stressed that the club must carefully manage the player’s workload as he works toward complete match fitness. Martin Terrier and Eliesse Ben Seghir are in a similar position, with both attackers also being reintroduced cautiously after injuries.

The Leverkusen boss did not confirm whether Diaby will start, but his latest appearance has strengthened his case for a larger contribution. “He did well in his last outing, and increasing those minutes tomorrow is an option,” Martinez explained.

Diaby’s pace and direct running can add a different dimension to Leverkusen’s attack. While the coaching staff will avoid rushing his recovery, the winger appears increasingly likely to feature more prominently as the season develops.
