Pressure grows on Brandon Truter ahead of Chippa United’s Sundowns test

Pressure is increasing on Brandon Truter as Chippa United prepare to face in-form Mamelodi Sundowns before the FIFA break.

The Eastern Cape club are still waiting for their first win of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season after five matches. Chippa have drawn four games and lost one, leaving Truter’s side under growing scrutiny before Saturday’s difficult fixture.

Chippa will host Sundowns at Buffalo City Stadium in KuGompo City, with the visitors arriving as league leaders after a 3-0 victory over Siwelele FC on Wednesday.

That result further strengthened Sundowns’ position at the top of the table and set up a particularly demanding challenge for the Chilli Boys, who must find a way to end their winless start against one of the division’s strongest sides.

The timing of the match may add to the pressure on Truter. The international break is approaching, while several clubs have already made changes to their technical teams after difficult openings to the campaign.

Siwelele parted company with Lehlohonolo Seema this week, following their poor start. Marumo Gallants also relieved Phuti Mohafe of his coaching responsibilities.

Truter remains in charge at Chippa United, but the absence of a victory from the opening five matches has intensified questions over his position.

Saturday’s meeting with Sundowns could therefore be significant for the Chippa manager as he attempts to steady his team and secure a first win before the FIFA break.
