Lamine Yamal continued his impressive night for FC Barcelona by scoring a second goal from a free-kick as the Catalan side extended their lead over Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League.
The Spanish forward struck Barcelona’s fourth goal in the 78th minute of their opening match in the league phase, adding further gloss to a dominant display by the home side.
Yamal was given the opportunity from a central position just outside the Feyenoord penalty area. Rather than attempting to bend the ball around the wall, the young Barcelona player drove his right-footed effort through the gap between the defenders.
The shot caught Feyenoord goalkeeper Ernst off guard. He was beaten by the pace and direction of the strike and could not prevent the ball from reaching the back of the net.
The finish completed Yamal’s double and gave FC Barcelona a commanding advantage as they looked to begin the new UEFA Champions League league phase with a convincing victory.
It was another composed contribution from Yamal, whose afternoon had already included one goal before he stepped up to take the set-piece. With the ball positioned directly in front of the Feyenoord goal, he took responsibility for the free-kick and found a route through the defensive wall.
Feyenoord’s players were unable to block the effort, while Ernst had no chance of keeping it out once the ball had passed through the crowd of players. The goal underlined Barcelona’s control of the match and left the Dutch side facing a substantial deficit late in the game.
Yamal’s second strike also ensured that he played a direct part in the fourth goal of Barcelona’s opening league-phase fixture. His contribution helped the Catalan club move towards a successful start to the competition in its new format.
With 12 minutes of normal time remaining when the goal was scored, FC Barcelona held a substantial lead over Feyenoord. Yamal’s free-kick provided another decisive moment in a match that had increasingly moved in the Spanish club’s favour.
The result of the encounter was not yet complete at the time of the goal, but Barcelona’s advantage placed them in a strong position to begin their UEFA Champions League campaign with victory. For Yamal, the second goal completed a memorable individual performance and further established him as one of the key attacking figures in the match.
