Al Ahly take legal action over fake Hussein Ammouta social media accounts

Al Ahly have announced that they are pursuing legal action against fake social media accounts falsely presented as belonging to their head coach, Hussein Ammouta.

The Egyptian club issued an official statement on Wednesday after a verified account on X appeared under the name of Ammouta, who is identified as the manager of Al Ahly’s first-team football side.

Posts published through the account included technical matters relating to the team. Their appearance prompted widespread debate, with readers and followers discussing whether the comments had genuinely come from the Moroccan coach.

Al Ahly moved to clarify the situation and said Ammouta does not operate any official social media accounts.

“The head coach of the team, Hussein Ammouta, does not have any accounts on social media platforms (Facebook, X or Instagram),” the club said in its statement.

The club also confirmed that it was taking action over accounts that had been falsely linked to the manager.

“Legal procedures are being taken against the fake accounts that attributed statements to him which he did not make in the first place, and which appeared on accounts that he does not own and has no connection with,” Al Ahly added.

The statement was issued specifically to distinguish the club’s first-team coach from the accounts carrying his name. Although one of those accounts was verified on X, Al Ahly said that verification did not mean it belonged to Ammouta or represented his views.

The club’s clarification also rejected any connection between the Moroccan coach and the technical material published through the accounts. According to Al Ahly, the posts were presented as if they reflected comments from Ammouta, but had in fact been issued through platforms he does not control.

The dispute centres on the use of the manager’s identity online and the publication of comments attributed to him without his authorisation. Al Ahly’s statement was intended to end confusion over the source of those comments and to warn that formal legal action was under way.

The club did not identify the operators of the accounts in its announcement. It instead focused on confirming that Ammouta has no Facebook, X or Instagram account and that he had no involvement in the statements circulated through the fake profiles.

The issue generated broad discussion among football followers, while the subject was also made available for deeper discussion through the Kooora forums. Al Ahly’s announcement remains the club’s official clarification regarding the accounts and the comments attributed to its head coach.
