Charles Sampson targets Ghana victory over France to seal U20 World Cup knockout spot

Ghana Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson says his side will target victory against France as they seek to secure qualification for the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

The Black Princesses revived their hopes of progressing after an impressive 3-1 victory over South Korea on Wednesday and now face a decisive final Group C encounter.

Ghana will take on France on Saturday, 12 September, knowing that a positive result could secure their place in the next stage of the competition.

Ghana bounce back from opening defeat

The Black Princesses began their campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Ecuador but responded strongly in their second match against South Korea.

Sampson praised the character, enthusiasm and determination shown by his players in securing the crucial victory.

“Today, the team actually really showed up. They showed up with the character that we know they have in the team. They believe they have for themselves and each other. And today, they exhibited it exactly how it should be, with a lot of enthusiasm and passion. And they made up their mind that we’re gonna take this day, and that’s what happened,” the coach told the GFA Media team.

Sampson sets sights on France victory

With Ghana’s qualification hopes now in their own hands, Sampson says the Black Princesses will approach the France match with the intention of collecting the points required to advance.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t get the results we want in the first. We got now a results that bring us up into the game, so we are approaching the France game to get the points that is needed to go further. That’s our aim,” the coach said.
