Mohamed Bakayoko: Ghana defender joins CSL Stefanesti on loan from FC Rapid 1923

Ghanaian centre-back Mohamed Bakayoko has joined CSL Stefanesti from FC Rapid 1923 on loan, completing a move within Romanian football on 8 September.

Bakayoko, 19, moves from Romania’s SuperLiga to Liga 2, where he will continue his career with CSL Stefanesti. The transfer takes the young defender from one of the country’s top-level competitions to its second tier.

The move brings an end, for now, to Bakayoko’s spell with FC Rapid 1923. He had been part of the Bucharest club’s squad before switching to CSL Stefanesti, giving the defender the opportunity to represent a side competing in a different division.

Bakayoko’s position is centre-back, placing him in the defensive area of a CSL Stefanesti team competing in Liga 2. His arrival adds a Ghanaian player to the Romanian second tier and marks the latest step in the 19-year-old’s progression through the country’s domestic game.

The transfer was completed as a loan rather than a permanent move, with Bakayoko leaving FC Rapid 1923 temporarily for CSL Stefanesti. No further contract details have been announced as part of the move.

The change also creates a clear league transition for the defender. Bakayoko will now operate in Liga 2 after his spell with a club competing in the SuperLiga, giving him experience of another level of Romanian football.

For CSL Stefanesti, the completed agreement brings in a young Ghanaian defender from a SuperLiga club. For FC Rapid 1923, Bakayoko remains connected to the club while spending the next stage of his career with the Liga 2 side.
