Al Ahly deny Hussein Ammouta social media accounts as legal action begins

Al Ahly have denied that head coach Hussein Ammouta operates any social media accounts and say legal proceedings are being taken against fake profiles attributed to him.

A verified account on X using the Moroccan manager’s name had posted comments about technical matters, prompting widespread debate.

The Egyptian club issued a statement on its official website to clarify the situation.

“Hussein Ammouta, the team’s head coach, does not have any accounts on social media platforms (Facebook, X or Instagram),” Al Ahly said.

The club added: “Legal action is being taken against the fake accounts that attributed statements to him which he did not make in the first place, and which appeared on accounts that he does not own and with which he has no connection.”

The statement was released after the verified X account appeared to represent Ammouta and published material relating to Al Ahly’s football affairs. The club did not recognise the account as belonging to its manager and stressed that he has no presence on Facebook, X or Instagram.

Ammouta is in his first season in charge of Al Ahly after signing a two-year contract. The Moroccan coach’s appointment places him at the beginning of a planned spell with the club, but the fake accounts have created an issue away from the pitch at the start of his tenure.

Al Ahly are due to face Arab Contractors in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday evening.

The club have won their opening three league matches, with the source listing victories over El Sharkia, ENPPI, ZED and Smouha. Their meeting with Arab Contractors comes as Al Ahly continue their early league campaign under Ammouta.

The club’s warning is intended to distinguish the coach’s genuine statements from comments published by accounts using his name. Al Ahly said the statements attributed to him were not issued by him and that he had no relationship with the profiles involved.

The legal action will now target the accounts that presented themselves as being connected to the Al Ahly manager. The club’s message also serves as a direct warning to supporters and followers that any posts from Facebook, X or Instagram profiles claiming to belong to Ammouta should not be regarded as official.

Ammouta remains responsible for Al Ahly as they prepare for their fourth league fixture of the season, but the club has made clear that he has no personal social media accounts through which he communicates about team matters.
