Kelechi Iheanacho sets career record after scoring in six consecutive Bursaspor matches

Kelechi Iheanacho is enjoying a remarkable resurgence in Turkey, with the Nigerian striker scoring in each of his first six league appearances for Bursaspor and establishing the best scoring run of his career.

The 29-year-old has wasted little time making an impact since joining the Turkish TFF First League club on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Celtic.

Iheanacho has scored eight goals and provided two assists in his opening six league matches, helping Bursaspor climb to second in the standings, just one point behind leaders Batman Petrolspor.

His latest goal came in Monday’s meeting with Manisa and was arguably his most impressive of the campaign. After receiving the ball outside the penalty area, Iheanacho advanced towards the box before curling a low effort into the bottom corner.

The strike also delivered a significant personal milestone.

Iheanacho breaks new ground

According to OptaCan, the goal made it the first time in Iheanacho’s professional career that he has scored in six consecutive matches.

Despite enjoying productive periods during his spells with Leicester City and Celtic, the Super Eagles forward had never previously managed such a sustained scoring streak.

His remarkable start has also taken him to the top of the division’s scoring charts, with Iheanacho holding a two-goal advantage over second-placed Rey Manaj.

The former Manchester City forward arrived at Bursaspor after an impressive finish to his time in Scotland, where his performances had raised expectations that he would remain with Celtic on a permanent basis.

Instead, Bursaspor moved quickly to secure his services and have since been rewarded handsomely for their investment.

Promotion the bigger prize

While Iheanacho’s individual numbers have attracted attention, his priority will be helping Bursaspor achieve their main objective: returning to the Turkish Süper Lig.

The club are currently well positioned in the promotion race, with 32 league matches still to be played.

For Iheanacho, maintaining his current level could prove important beyond Bursaspor’s campaign. His resurgence comes as Nigeria continue to assess their options in attack, potentially putting the striker back in contention for a return to the Super Eagles setup.

After a difficult period in recent seasons, Iheanacho has found a new platform in Turkey — and his extraordinary six-game scoring streak suggests he intends to make the most of it.
