Togo name squad for AFCON 2027 qualifiers

Togo head coach Patrice Neveu has announced a 29-man provisional squad for the Sparrowhawks’ opening matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Togo are set to begin their qualifying campaign during the upcoming international break, with two challenging fixtures against Burundi and Zambia scheduled for September.

The Sparrowhawks will host Burundi on September 25 in their opening Group qualification fixture before travelling to face Zambia’s Chipolopolo four days later on September 29.

With the two matches set to provide Togo with an early test in their bid to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, Neveu has opted for a 29-player provisional squad from which the final team will be selected.

The provisional list is made up of four goalkeepers, ten defenders, eight midfielders and seven forwards, providing the French coach with options across all areas of the pitch.

Togo will be hoping to make a positive start at home against Burundi before turning their attention to the difficult trip to Zambia.

The Sparrowhawks will need to collect positive results from both matches if they are to build early momentum in their qualification campaign.

The 29 players will now compete for places in the final squad, with Neveu expected to make his final selections ahead of the September international window.

Togo’s opening fixture against Burundi will be played on September 25, with the Sparrowhawks then travelling to Zambia for their second qualifier on September 29.

The two matches could prove crucial in shaping Togo’s early prospects of reaching the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, and Neveu will be hoping his provisional squad provides enough quality and depth to secure positive results.
