Campobasso sign Spanish-Algerian goalkeeper Antonio Martinez on free transfer

Antonio Martinez, the Spanish-Algerian goalkeeper, has joined Campobasso on a free transfer as the Serie C-B club strengthen their squad for the 2026-27 season.

The 20-year-old has signed a contract with Campobasso until 30 June 2027, completing the move on 7 September 2026 after becoming a free agent earlier in the summer.

Martinez spent the previous part of his career with Athl Palermo, whom he joined in December 2025. His time with the club ended on 1 July 2026, leaving him without a club before his move to Campobasso was finalised.

Born in Murcia, Martinez came through the youth systems at Villarreal and his hometown club Murcia. He joined Villarreal Under-19s from the club’s youth side in July 2023 before moving to Murcia Under-19s a year later.

The goalkeeper then left Murcia Under-19s in July 2025 before joining Athl Palermo during the 2025-26 season. His latest move takes him into the Campobasso squad for the club’s Serie C-B campaign.

Martinez’s arrival gives Campobasso another goalkeeper option and marks the next stage of his career in Italy. He joins with a market value of €50,000 and holds both Spanish and Algerian nationality.

The deal was completed on 7 September, with Martinez now under contract at Campobasso through the end of June 2027.
