Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies stay perfect as UWC and Tuks claim important Super League wins
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies maintained their perfect start to the Hollywoodbets Super League season with a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch Ladies, while the University of Pretoria and the University of the Western Cape also recorded significant wins over the weekend.
Noxolo Cesane scored the decisive goal as Sundowns returned to domestic action and strengthened their position at the top of the Super Era stream. They have collected 18 points from six matches and now hold a five-point advantage at the summit.
Cesane’s goal also took her tally to six for the campaign, keeping her as the division’s leading scorer. Stellenbosch Ladies, who are the new side in the pool, remain at the bottom without a point after seven matches.
The University of Pretoria moved to third place after Siyamthanda Qashane scored a hat-trick in their victory over TS Galaxy Queens. The result handed Galaxy their second defeat of the season.
Tuks now have 13 points from seven games, level with The Rockets, who occupy second place in the same stream.
The University of the Western Cape also strengthened their challenge near the top of the table by beating Richmond United 3-0. Aaliyah Jacobs, Lindokuhle Gladile and Tiffany Kortjie scored for UWC, who remained fourth with 13 points.
Richmond United are third from bottom in the group, with seven points from seven games.
In the Super Rise stream, JVW FC retained first place after a 2-1 win against Tshwane University of Technology. Nompumelelo Nyandeni and Shannon Macomo scored for the Blue Diamonds, while Sibongile Twala scored for TUT.
JVW FC’s victory took them to 17 points. TUT stayed third in the standings on 11 points, also after seven matches.
City Lads’ difficult season continued with a 2-0 defeat by the University of Fort Hare. They remain bottom of the Super Rise stream after losing all seven of their matches.
City Lads have yet to score in the competition and have conceded 16 goals. The University of Fort Hare moved to fourth place with 10 points from seven games.
