Nigeria FA set to announce new Super Falcons coach on Tuesday

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are reportedly set to announce new head coach for the Super Falcons on Tuesday in Abuja.

The announcement is expected as part of efforts to begin preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games well in advance.

“In order to start the preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games early, the NFF will announce the new Super Falcons coach on Tuesday,” a senior official of the Nigeria Sports Commission said.

The appointment comes after a disappointing campaign for Nigeria at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Super Falcons, who entered the tournament among the leading contenders, were eliminated at the quarter-final stage, a result that also saw them miss out on qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Following the disappointing campaign, Justin Madugu was relieved of his position as head coach, leaving the Nigeria FA and Sports Commission to begin the search for a new manager capable of rebuilding the team.

The incoming coach will be tasked with guiding the Super Falcons through a new cycle, with the immediate focus expected to be on rebuilding the squad and laying the foundations for Nigeria’s bid to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games.

The Nigeria FA and Sports Commission will be hoping the new appointment provides stability and helps restore the Super Falcons to the level expected of one of Africa’s most successful women’s national teams.

The official announcement on Tuesday is therefore expected to provide clarity on the direction of the team following the disappointment in Morocco.
