Afeez Bankole joins Ikorodu City as Nigerian right-back leaves Kwara United

Nigeria right-back Afeez Bankole has joined Ikorodu City from Kwara United, completing an NPFL move on 6 September 2026.

The 22-year-old defender arrives after one season with Kwara United, where he made 18 appearances in the NPFL. Bankole played 1,349 minutes during the campaign, establishing himself as a regular option in the side’s defensive set-up.

Bankole’s move to Ikorodu City represents his second club change since the start of 2025. He joined Kwara United from Nasarawa United on 15 January 2025 before switching NPFL clubs again at the beginning of the 2026-27 season.

The right-footed full-back has played primarily at right-back and joins an Ikorodu City squad competing in Nigeria’s top-flight league. His arrival gives the club another specialist option in the position as they prepare for the new campaign.

Bankole has also been part of a cup-winning squad during his career, having won the Nigerian Cup once. His recorded club statistics include appearances in the NPFL, while he has also been included in a squad associated with the CAF Confederation Cup.

Born on 5 May 2004, Bankole remains 22 years old and is a Nigeria national. His move keeps him in the NPFL, with Ikorodu City becoming the third club of his senior career after Nasarawa United and Kwara United.

The transfer adds further continuity to Bankole’s career in Nigerian football, with each of his recent moves taking place between NPFL clubs. He now continues that progression in Ikorodu City colours after leaving Kwara United.

Bankole’s transfer to Ikorodu City was completed on 6 September 2026.
